Long Earred Owls at Bennington

I have been wanting to see a Long Eared Owl for sometime now. Today was a sunny and warm day. I decided to look for the owls in the thick trees up at Bennington Lake. I looked through a lot of the trees before going through the last stand. Three small owls took off from a tree in front of me, but I didn't get a good look at them nor did I see them before they started to fly. They only flew about 20 or 30 feet away from me. I spent about 30 0r 40 minutes sneaking around in the trees to see what these owls were. Anytime I got close to them they flew away, they blended in so well I never saw them till they flew. I was about to move on because I felt bad about making these owls fly back and forth, when I saw one of them deep in a tree, it was a Long Eared Owl. The picture isn't the best but its my first sight of this little owl.

  1. Jon, where exactly were these guys hiding out? Somewhere on the south side of the lake?
