The San Juan Islands were a pretty place to camp, but the birding was minimal. I did see a few birds almost everyday, like the Chestnut Backed Chickadee and the Black Capped Chickadee. I saw a new type of bird, the Harlequin Duck and got to see a Bald Eagle. The owl that we saw on Lopez Island looked different to me than I'm used to but I believe its a Great Horned Owl. I was surprised at the lack of shorebirds, but the forests were full of woodpeckers and and I heard a Pileated Woodpecker call as well as a Flicker. There was almost always a Turkey Vulture circling above the island. Now I'm back in Walla Walla where the birds are plentiful.
